DSNG is Ranked in SPOTT’s Top 7 Global ESG Assessment for Palm Oil Companies

JAKARTA, 22 NOVEMBER 2021 – PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk (DSNG) was ranked 7th out of more than 100 global palm oil companies in the 2021 Sustainable Policy Transparency Toolkit (SPOTT)’s ESG Policy Transparency Assessment, released online from London on Thursday November 18th 2021.

DSNG achieved a score of 85.9%, which increased significantly from 75,3% in 2020 when it was in 16th place then. DSNG is also the only Indonesian domiciled palm oil company which is in the top 10 of SPOTT.

The SPOTT ranking is based on the assessment of over 100 global companies in palm oil on their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosures.

DSNG’s CEO, Andrianto Oetomo, said that DSNG’s position within the top 7 of global palm oil companies in SPOTT’s ESG assessment reflects DSNG’s firm commitment in reporting its ESG disclosures transparently according to the expectations of its stakeholders and civil society.

“The independent assessment result released by SPOTT motivates us to continue earnestly in implementing positive and impactful ESG practices within our business lines, specifically in our palm oil business. For us, communicating our ESG practices effectively and transparently is not only a necessary obligation, but it has become a fundamental tenet of our business communications,” said Andrianto Oetomo in responding to SPOTT’s release.

SPOTT is an initiative developed by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). It is an abbreviation of Sustainability Policy Transparency Toolkit, an online platform dedicated to support sustainable commodity production and trace. By tracking the company transparency, SPOTT incentivizes implementation of company best practices.

SPOTT assess commodity producers, processors, and traders for their public disclosure regarding their organization, policies and practices related to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. It assesses tropical forestry, palm oil, and natural rubber companies annually against more than 100 sector-specific indicators to measure their progress over time.

In conjunction with the release of the latest SPOTT assessments, Andrianto Oetomo had noted that ZSL had mentioned that 78% of companies have still failed to make a time-bound target to reduce greenhouse gas emission intensity. In this regard, Andrianto said “DSNG has begun its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Scoping and Climate Risk Assessment with two notable companies that are specialists in the field of emission reduction projects and climate action for businesses and organizations around the world in September 2021. This work is an important step of DSNG’s planned and structured approach towards Net Zero.”

He further said “Ultimately we aim to reduce emissions, align ourselves with the Government of Indonesia’s efforts to meet the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), and transition to a low-carbon and climate resilient future. But we want to do this in a structured, meaningful and measurable manner.”
