DSNG Commissioned First Bio-CNG Plant

JAKARTA, SEPTEMBER 17, 2020 – PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk (“the Company”, “DSN Group”) today commissioned its first Bio-CNG Plant in Muara Wahau, East Kalimantan. The event was broadcasted live from two locations by video conferencing: from the Bio-CNG Plant facility in Muara Wahau and the Company’s Head Office in East Jakarta.

The President Director of the Company, Andrianto Oetomo, who was accompanied by the Managing Director of the Agro Business Unit, Timotheus Arifin C, initiated the commissioning process by activating the siren remotely from the Company’s Head Office in Jakarta. This event was also virtually attended by the Board of Directors and members of the Board of Commissioners via a video conference.

According to Andrianto Oetomo, the BioCNG Plant project demonstrated DSNG’s real commitment to implement the circular economy concept by minimizing palm oil mill waste and pollution, utilizing sustainable resources and regeneration of natural systems. The Bio-CNG facility, which was being constructed since December 2018, validated DSNG’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emission while at the same time creating an economic benefit through less diesel fuel consumption.

“The Bio CNG Plant utilizes liquid waste from a palm oil mill and one palm oil mill with a processing capacity of 60 tons of FFB/hour can lower the greenhouse gas emission effects through the reduction of more than 50,000 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to planting of more than 800,000 trees or removing around 11,000 cars off the road or recycling about 17,000 tons of landfill waste, ”said Andrianto Oetomo to the media via a video conference post the commissioning live event.

The Bio-CNG plant, he added, will generate electricity with a capacity of 1.2 MegaWatt and be utilized to power the Kernel Crushing Plant (KCP) as well as the BioCNG Plant itself.

While the remaining excess biogas will be further compressed into Biomethane Compressed Natural Gas and then stored and contained in gas cylinders, safe for both workers and the environment. Next, the gas cylinders will be distributed by Bio-CNG-fueled trucks to emplacements (employee housing) and other Palm Oil Mills (POM) in Muara Wahau to replace the usage of conventional solar diesel.

“By utilizing the renewable energy from Bio-CNG, the Company can save the consumption of diesel fuel by at least 2 million liters per year,” he said.

COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

In the commissioning event, the Company also invited some community representatives, including smallholder farmers, transportation contractors and Credit Unions managers, who have been actively involved in the community economic empowerment activities of DSNG.

Managing Director of the Company’s Agro Business Unit, Timotheus Arifin C., said the Company’s governance stemmed from an understanding that the development of the local community is a benchmark for the development of the company itself.

“We respect employees, community and environment by conducting business practices that are able to make a significant contribution to support the existence of the surrounding community based on harmonious principles and mutually beneficial partnerships,” he said.

Since the Company’s establishment , according to Timotheus Arifin C., DSNG has facilitated the economic empowerment of the community by providing various opportunities, including partnerships with farmers in the supply chain for sustainable palm oil production, transporting Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB), CPO, PKO, fertilizer and others as well as construction work for employee housing and road maintainance connecting villages and DSNG’s plantations.

“In addition, we also facilitate the establishment and development of community-based financial institutions in the form of Credit Unions as our way of helping communities around the plantations to access capital fund. The Company believes that community empowerment is the key sucess factor for DSNG’s future growth and development, ”he said.
