Labour & Human Rights

The Company’s human rights policy is in line with international initiatives and standards, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the main Conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Guidelines on Business Principles and Human Rights of the United Nations (UNGP), the Performance Standards of the International Finance Corporation (IFC PS) on labour and working conditions (PS 2), indigenous peoples and cultural heritage (PS 7 and PS 8), and the principles of freedom and justice in oil palm production. DSNG respects and upholds human rights values for all stakeholders, both communities and Company employees. The company strives to create a safe and fair work environment, implement gender equality, foster diverse culture, including being child friendly.

DSNG supports the commitment to zero exploitation, through labour management and respect for human rights, improvement of employee and community welfare and prosperity, implementation of occupational health and safety, and management of indirect economic impacts through various corporate social responsibility initiatives. DSNG confirms this commitment by socializing it to all employees and stakeholders, and consistently monitoring its implementation in daily tasks.

DSNG is determined to implement its Women’s Protection Policy, which includes providing support and facilities for female employees and their families, as well as taking appropriate measures to protect women’s rights in operational areas. The Company has provided lactation rooms in our wood product factories, and separate portable or permanent field toilets at our palm oil plantation in Wahau Block, as part of our efforts, to achieve this.

The Company has also implemented a Children Protection Policy to ensure the welfare and safety of children. It is committed to protecting children’s rights and providing them with appropriate protection, particularly those residing in and around operational areas. The Company also demands its suppliers to comply with its policy of zero tolerance for child labor. DSNG has collaborated with multiparty partnerships, including institutions involved in preventing child labor in the agricultural sector in Indonesia, such as the Partnership for Against Child Labour in Agriculture (PAACLA), as part of its commitment to child protection

To support the implementation of these two policies, the Company has established a women’s committee, comprise of representatives from all DSNG palm oil subsidiaries in East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan. In 2023, the Company also established women’s committee at its subsidiaries at the Wood Panel and Flooring Product Business Unit. For DSNG, respecting human rights is an obligation and responsibility for all parties and we give serious attention to it, considering that humans have the same essence as social creatures.
