DSNG to develop solar power plant in Wood Product Segment

JAKARTA, 7 JULY 2021 – PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk (“DSNG”, “the Company”) has invested a serious effort in developing the renewable energy as its strong commitment to implement Environment Social and Governance (ESG) across all business lines. Has been successfully operating its first Bio-CNG Plant since September 2020, which processes palm oil mill effluent into renewable energy, DSNG now intends to install a solar power plant (solar panel) in its wood products business.

In June 2021, DSNG has appointed a solar panel service provider to develop a solar power plant utilizing the Norwegian technology.  The solar panels will be installed on the factory’s roof top of PT Tanjung Kreasi Parquet Industry (TKPI) with a coverage area of 16,000 m2, which can generate electricity of 2 Megawatts at its peak capacity. TKPI is a subsidiary of DSNG engaging in manufacturing of engineered flooring and located in Temanggung, Central Java.

The President Director of DSNG, Andrianto Oetomo, said the development of solar panel technology is a form of DSNG’s commitments to develop renewable energy by gradually reducing fossil energy consumption, applicable to both the palm oil and wood products business segments.

“We are committed to develop environmentally friendly palm oil and wood product businesses by gradually reducing carbon emissions. The development of solar panels at TKPI will reduce carbon emissions equivalent to 2,000 tons of CO2 per year, and at the same time cutting down PLN electricity consumption,” he said in the Company statement.

The installation of the solar power plant begins in  July 2021 and is expected to be commissioned in January 2022.

Currently, DSNG has two wood manufacturing factories in Temanggung, Central Java, which produce wood panels and engineered flooring for export markets. DSNG aims to implement the solar panels to both factories in the near future.

In the next three years, according to Andrianto, DSNG is aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emission equivalent to 400,000 ton CO2 per year, mainly contributed by 7 Bio-CNG Plants in Kalimantan to be developed within the next 3 years.

Since September 2020, DSNG has commissioned its first Bio-CNG Plant generating electricity of 1,2 Megawatt and bio-methane gas in cylinder or 280 m3 per hour. Then in March 2021, DSNG has conducted a ground-breaking ceremony for the 2nd Bio-CNG Plant utilizing palm oil mill effluents (POME) from two palm oil mills with capacity of 2 x 60 tons FFB per hour.

The second Bio-CNG plant will generate electricity of 2 x 850 kilowatts and biomethane gas in cylinder with a capacity of 540 m3 per hour and scheduled to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2022. In addition, the operation of the second Bio-CNG plant will reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 100,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.

Furthermore, DSNG has set a target to add 5 more Bio-CNG plants in the next three years as part of the Company’s commitment to implement sustainable business practices through the utilization of palm oil mill liquid waste (POME) into renewable energy.
