DSN Group Funds Community Forest Conservation in Laman Satong, West Kalimantan

PT Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk (DSN Group) is proud to participate in a Community led Forest Conservation Project in Hutan Desa Laman Satong in Manjau Sub-village, Laman Satong Village, Ketapang, West Kalimantan through a funding commitment for 10 years, starting from January 2021. As an RSPO member, the DSN Group participates through the RSPO Remediation and Compensation (RaCP) program in the Community led Conservation Project in Laman Satong, in collaboration with other stakeholders. The inauguration of the said project takes places on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

DSN Group through its three subsidiaries, PT Dharma Agrotama Nusantara, PT Dewata Sawit Nusantara and PT Dharma Intisawit Lestari, has committed a sum of USD 390,600 or the equivalent of IDR 5.5 billion for a period of 10 years in the said project.

DSN Group’s CSR Division Head Area 2, Immanuel Tibian, revealed that beyond DSN Group’s commitment to meet RSPO’s sustainable palm oil standards, the Remediation and Compensation Procedure (RaCP) mechanism provides a good platform  that enables companies to address their conservation and social responsibilities in a positive, measurable and durable way.

“This is part of the company’s larger commitment to landscape protection, by preserving the forest in Manjau Sub-village, which has been known as one of the biodiversity pockets in the West Kalimantan region. We are proud to be involved in this community led forest conservation program. It is aligned to our Sustainability vision to become the responsible choice for people, planet and prosperity “said Immanuel after the kick-off event. The remediation program carried out by DSN Group includes the funding for the ecosystem services (PES) to the Foundation that manages the village forest in Laman Satong.

The funding will be utilized to facilitate the community in catalyzing sustainable livelihoods while ensuring forest protection. The DSN Group has collaborated with the Community Forest Ecosystem Services (CFES) to implement the project from January 2021 to January 2031.  Meanwhile, Arif Aliadi, Chairman of CFES Governing Body said the program aims to develop social forestry as an effective and sustainable scheme for conservation and improvement of livelihoods.  To achieve this goal, the project will enable sustainable community-based forest management in the Laman Satong Village Forest, improve the local community’s livelihoods through sustainable agricultural improvements, as well as implement conservation activities so that the threats to their forests can be successfully countered, through a phased approach according to him.
